For example, if we wish to define gravity as a force that bends light down, we would not need to say that it is also a "galactic" force or a "wormhole" for light to escape from other places. All that is needed is to redefine gravity as the source of accelerated spinning of matter in such a way as to create an alternate explanation for why light gets deflected from a star at a high velocity. Although this might seem like a small change, it is important to understand that Paradigm shift is an important part of scientific practice and there are many ways in which theories can be tested, refined and changed in this way.
How do you know if you are working within a paradigm? You can ask yourself a series of questions: Am I committed to doing my homework? Am I committed to using all available methods to answer my questions? Do I welcome other people's insights? If you answered yes to all three questions, then you are on your way to joining the many who welcome the opportunity to engage in a paradigm shifting. The first step in moving forward is to clearly identify the paradigm shifting activities that you intend to engage in so that you can decide if you are willing to work within this framework. Once you are aware of what you plan to do, you can then choose between a two-step strategy or a four-step strategy. In the first strategy, you would commit to do your research and then write up a hypothesis. In the second strategy, you would outline a new paradigm for understanding the problem or theory that you are working on, then write up a paper about your paradigm. From there, you would draw on business evidence to support each point you have made in support of your paradigm shifting theory. For example, if you are working on a paper on dysfunctional sales practices in the retail industry, you can draw on examples of how these practices lead to bad customer experiences and then use your evidence to show why these practices need to be changed. Your paper can serve as a call to action for other retail leaders to embrace your paradigm shift and do their part to make positive changes. The next step in this direction is to look at the business application is to Define paradigm shift project. Here, you will again use business application to support your argument.
